John Soehner's days start well before sunrise; one cup of engine-strong coffee later, he's ready to go.

John and Cindy sell much of their produce at the local farmers markets, where they are well-known.

John Soehner has been many things: commercial fisher, long distance runner, farmer. Over the years he has lived in many different places and built a family and communities along the way.

John and his family were in a bad accident that cost him mobility in his arm, head injuries for his daughter, and months in the hospital. Although it has mostly healed, it still sometimes bothers him.

Based in Chapel Hill for the last 21 years, John Soehner and Cindy Econopouly’s business, “Eco Farming,” has become a pillar of farmer’s markets and suppliers.

Both John and Cindy make money outside of farming: John also sells firewood and Cindy works at a local market.

One of John's side business is collecting firewood and selling it to restaurants.

The family settles down with some friends after a long day of work.
